Event Overview
The Singapore sovereign wealth fund, GIC, and U.S.-based artificial‑intelligence startup Anthropic organized their inaugural joint event in the city on Thursday, 23 April 2026. The closed‑door gathering drew roughly 150 senior figures from the nation’s technology and investment sectors, including venture capitalists across Asia, Singapore‑based tech executives, and government representatives.
Highlights of the Session
The event, titled the “Anthropic × GIC Asia Pacific Innovation Day,” took place at GIC’s Capital Tower office. Attendees witnessed live demonstrations of Anthropic’s Claude AI platform and heard speakers discuss how AI is becoming indispensable for businesses worldwide.
Key Messages from GIC Leadership
Dominic Soon, senior vice‑president of private equity at GIC, addressed the audience and stated that AI has become “no longer optional” for organisations. He emphasised that responsible, safe, and thoughtful implementation can unlock significant benefits for companies of all sizes. “Anthropic has been a leader and an innovator in this space,” Soon added.
He noted that Singapore ranks highest per capita among users of Claude, with usage levels five and a half times higher than expected for the country’s population. “We have ample talent here and are well‑positioned to become a global AI hub,” he said.
Investment Timeline
GIC first invested in Anthropic during its September 2025 Series F round, which raised US$13 billion (S$16.6 billion). In February 2026, GIC led the most recent Series G funding round, further solidifying its commitment to the AI frontier firm.
Implications for Singapore’s Tech Ecosystem
The event underscores Singapore’s growing role as a centre for AI innovation and investment. With strong local talent and increasing adoption of advanced AI tools, the city-state is poised to attract more global tech initiatives and deepen its position in the region’s digital economy.
