Nvidia’s next-generation GPU lineup, particularly the rumored RTX 5000 Super models, appears to be facing production delays due to significant cost concerns related to memory.
According to reports cited by tech sources, manufacturers of computer circuit boards have reportedly received components for these anticipated graphics cards. However, despite having the necessary chips, the project has been put on hold. The primary reason for this pause is the elevated price of Video RAM (VRAM).
The Super refreshes are expected to incorporate substantial amounts of VRAM, which drives up material expenses dramatically. Specifically, industry rumors suggest a requirement for new 3GB GDDR7 memory modules. This type of chip is reportedly three times more expensive than the 2GB GDDR7 modules currently utilized in existing RTX 5000 models.
This cost issue presents a major hurdle. Since these Super variants are designed to be VRAM-rich, the increased memory capacity quickly inflates the total cost of production materials.
The potential price hikes are significant. For example, if the rumored RTX 5070 Super features an expanded 18GB of RAM (up from the current 12GB), the sheer volume and expense of the new modules could cause a massive jump in the retail price—potentially raising it by hundreds of dollars compared to its current counterpart.
While these cards were expected to be expensive initially, this added premium makes them potentially prohibitive for many consumers.
Despite the delay and the worry over steep pricing, the existence of the RTX 5000 Super models seems credible. Although buyers may have to wait longer than anticipated, the components are reportedly being prepared.
