Chinese hardware manufacturer MOREFINE has officially announced the G2, a new external graphics docking station designed to expand the capabilities of portable computers and gaming handhelds. The enclosure houses a full-sized NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB desktop graphics card, delivering desktop-class rendering power to systems that typically rely on integrated or mobile chipsets. Notably, the G2 stands out as one of the first commercially available external GPU enclosures to feature the newly released Thunderbolt 5 interface alongside an OCuLink port, providing users with flexible high-speed connectivity options.
Connectivity and Performance Capabilities
External graphics enclosures have historically faced performance bottlenecks due to the absence of direct motherboard PCIe lanes. The G2 addresses this limitation by utilizing dual connection pathways. The Thunderbolt 5 interface doubles the data throughput of its predecessor, delivering up to 80 Gbps of total bandwidth, which translates to approximately 63 Gbps of effective data transfer. This speed closely mirrors the capabilities of a standard PCIe 4.0 x4 connection. Additionally, the integrated OCuLink port provides a matching 63 Gbps effective PCIe bandwidth.
