Advanced Power and Performance Specifications
In a move to enhance its electric vehicle charging offerings, Geely has announced its fifth-generation ‘Geely Smart Charging Station.’ This new infrastructure boasts a substantial peak power output of 2,250kW. The development appears to be a direct response to competitors, such as BYD’s 1,500kW ‘Flash Charging’ system.
This high-powered station was revealed alongside the group’s ‘Next-Gen Ultra Short Blade Battery.’ During real-world testing, the system demonstrated rapid charging capabilities for specific models. It was able to charge both a Lynk & Co 10 and a Zeekr 001 from a 10% to a 70% state of charge in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Furthermore, a full charge cycle, moving the battery from 10% to 97%, was completed in 8 minutes and 40 seconds.
Innovative Battery Management Systems
The technology underpinning the charging system features several key innovations designed to boost efficiency and longevity. The new battery formulation is engineered to reduce the amount of heat generated during the charging process by 10%.
Geely also collaborated with a company named StepFun to create a ‘smart energy AI model.’ This sophisticated AI system analyzes various data points and employs complex algorithms to predict the battery’s temperature up to 30 seconds in advance. By doing so, the AI can dynamically adjust the charging power in real-time, ensuring the battery’s average temperature remains below 55°C while connected to the charger.
Beyond the AI management, the system incorporates a new ‘end-to-end five-point liquid-cooling system.’ This comprehensive cooling setup manages temperature control across multiple components, including the charging station’s energy-storage battery, the charging pile, the cable, the vehicle’s charging port, and the car’s battery pack.
Longevity and Manufacturer Overview
Geely, the parent company that owns brands including Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, stated that the combination of the advanced AI charging management software and the hardware improvements is projected to extend the lifespan of the battery by 20%.
The announcement highlights a significant step forward in rapid charging infrastructure, providing owners with the ability to achieve a substantial charge in a remarkably short amount of time.
