New Capabilities for Multi-Step Workflows
Microsoft has announced the availability of Copilot Cowork through its Frontier program, marking a significant step in advancing AI integration within Microsoft 365. This feature is designed to handle long-running, complex workflows by leveraging multi-model intelligence. Users can delegate tasks, and Copilot Cowork will generate plans, coordinate tools and files, and track progress across workflows. The system combines skills from Claude and Microsoft, enabling tasks like calendar management and daily briefings, as well as repeatable processes such as monthly budget reviews.
Early Adoption and Real-World Impact
Organizations with early access to Copilot Cowork have already reported value in areas like planning, scheduling, and executive preparation. Barton Warner, SVP of Enterprise Technology at Capital Group, noted that the tool has helped automate workflows and scale the AI ecosystem since its 2024 launch. “This isn’t about generating content or answers,” he said. “It’s about taking real action—connecting steps, coordinating tasks, and following through across everyday workflows.”
Researcher Enhances Deep Research Capabilities
Microsoft has also introduced new features in its Researcher tool, built on multi-model intelligence. The updated Critique function uses models from Anthropic and OpenAI to separate task planning from evaluation. One model drafts a response while another acts as an expert reviewer. This process improves accuracy, with Researcher now scoring 13.8% higher on the DRACO benchmark for deep research quality. A new Council feature allows users to compare responses from different models, highlighting areas of agreement and divergence.
Wave 3: A New Era for AI in Work
These updates are part of Wave 3 of Microsoft 365 Copilot, which emphasizes context-aware intelligence and trust-based AI. The integration of security measures ensures safe scaling across the workforce. “When intelligence and trust move together, AI stops being an experiment and starts becoming how work gets done,” said Jared Spataro, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer for AI at Work.
Next Steps
