Anthropic has introduced a new application called Claude Duet, positioning it as its major entry into the rapidly expanding field of AI agents. This release aims to capture user attention amid a flood of productivity and personal assistants, directly challenging rivals such as Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.
Focus on Professional Productivity
Anthropic stated that Claude Duet is specifically designed to assist professionals and small businesses with automating and managing complex tasks. The company emphasized that Duet differs significantly from purely personal AI assistants, noting that it is not built for minor tasks like booking tickets or handling personal errands, nor can it display its real-time browser activity.
Instead, the agent is engineered to perform higher-level functions. Users can leverage Duet to generate daily briefings, build comprehensive dashboards, and receive actionable suggestions derived from the user’s existing data. Like other agents, Duet operates in the background using its own virtual machine, allowing users to continue working while the agent processes requests and then notifying them when approval is needed.
Addressing Market Trends and Capabilities
The introduction of Duet coincides with a market shift, moving beyond general AI assistants toward specialized agents that can execute tasks on behalf of the user. Anthropic’s rivals, including Meta and OpenAI, are similarly focusing on business-oriented applications; for instance, Meta’s Muse serves as a personal assistant but also offers a business version, while OpenAI’s Dots incorporates professional tool integrations.
According to Anthropic, Duet proactively provides recommendations by continuously monitoring ongoing user tasks. The app is powered by the Claude Opus 5.5 model and has the capacity to connect with over 6,000 connectors and plug-ins housed within the Claude Marketplace. Furthermore, Duet supports online commerce, enabling it to make purchases on behalf of users through Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay.
Safety Measures and Availability
While Duet can facilitate transactions, the company confirmed that all sensitive actions, particularly payments, require explicit user authorization. However, the agent is restricted from engaging in activities such as trading securities or transferring money between accounts.
To enhance security, Anthropic also deployed a new classifier designed to scan all outgoing messages and prevent the leakage of sensitive personal data. By default, the agent is configured to reject any requests that involve providing credit card numbers or government identification.
As of its announcement on October 22, 2026, Claude Duet is accessible as an application on both iOS and Android, and through the web at Claude.ai for Pro and Max tier customers participating in a research preview. Users interested in testing the agent must sign up for a waitlist.
