Anticipated IPO Timeline and Process
According to sources familiar with the artificial intelligence company’s plans, Anthropic is scheduled to submit its S-1 investor prospectus for a public offering as soon as Friday. This potential listing is viewed as a critical development for the industry, potentially marking one of the largest Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) in history.
The highly anticipated debut is seen by market observers as a major gauge of investor sentiment regarding the accelerating AI sector, particularly given rising concerns among investors about the massive expenditure within the industry. The company had previously submitted a draft IPO registration statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) during June. Under SEC regulations, firms utilizing the confidential filing process must make their registration documentation available at least 15 calendar days before the commencement of their formal investor roadshow.
While a public filing would overcome a significant procedural hurdle toward a potential listing in November, the precise timing of the offering remains contingent upon prevailing market conditions and other variables. Furthermore, the filing would grant regular investors their initial visibility into the financial risks and detailed financial aspects of one of the fastest-growing companies in the AI sector.
Financial Scale and Market Expectations
Anthropic is dedicating billions of dollars toward AI infrastructure necessary for training and operating its suite of Claude models. This work involves partnerships with major technology firms, including Google (GOOG, GOOGL) and Amazon (AMZN), in addition to securing GPU capacity rentals from SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center.
Financial reporting indicates that the company generated $16.3 billion in revenue during the first six months of 2026, though it reported a net loss exceeding $80 billion, according to a report published by the Wall Street Journal on a Tuesday. Nevertheless, the company demonstrated strong quarterly growth; the Financial Times noted that Anthropic’s revenue climbed to $16.8 billion in the third quarter, representing an increase from the $11.5 billion recorded in the second quarter, and that the company was also profitable when measured on an adjusted basis.
Industry analysts anticipate a massive offering, with Reuters previously stating that Wall Street predicts Anthropic could raise as much as $100 billion, based on an estimated $2 trillion valuation.
Broader Market Context
The timing of Anthropic’s IPO is expected to be a significant indicator for other companies planning to go public in the coming weeks, given its immense size. This comes against a backdrop of a challenging IPO market this year.
Market volatility has been evident in related sectors. For example, shares of South Korean data center provider Elice dropped a substantial 32% on their first trading day after the company raised $151 million. Additionally, Nvidia-backed Firmus Grid recently paused its public listing plans after investors expressed reservations regarding its proposed valuation, and several other firms have postponed their public debuts, citing unfavorable market conditions.
This cautious trend is also reflected in publicly traded AI-related companies, as investors have become increasingly selective regarding the substantial spending requirements of the industry. CoreWeave, in particular, has faced scrutiny from investors who question the future revenue prospects relative to the company’s debt burden.
For reference, Anthropic co-founded its operations with its sister, Daniela, who serves as the company’s president. The company has established a strong position in the corporate sector through its Claude chatbot, the specialized AI coding tool Claude Code, and Claude Cowork. While Anthropic moves toward public listing, its key rival, OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), is now projected to enter the public markets in early 2027.
