AI Sector Overview and Investment Signal
Despite Nvidia achieving its status as the world’s most valuable publicly traded company, its year-to-date return of 11% is noted as being less impressive compared to several other artificial intelligence (AI) stocks that have recently captured market attention. Three specific growth companies are highlighted because they all benefit from the ongoing build-out of AI infrastructure. Furthermore, these three stocks have already generated gains surpassing Nvidia’s performance earlier this year and appear well-positioned for continued growth through 2027.
The current investment climate suggests a notable signal: investors may recall that in 2009, a “Double Down” signal emerged for the chip manufacturer Nvidia. Now, a similar “Total Conviction” signal is reportedly visible for a company that is one hundredth the size of Nvidia.
Monolithic Power Systems (NASDAQ: MPWR)
Monolithic Power Systems manufactures power management systems essential for data centers, enabling them to maintain continuous operation without overloading AI chips. These power solutions are designed to work alongside liquid-cooling technologies to manage heat in servers and chips.
The stock has seen a rally exceeding 40% year-to-date, driven by escalating demand for the company’s products from AI data centers. In its first quarter earnings report, Monolithic Power Systems reported that revenue increased by 26.1% year over year, with net income growing at an even quicker pace.
The company’s financial results are based on six business segments, but two are driving the majority of growth. The Enterprise Data segment is particularly strong, accounting for approximately one-third of total sales and nearly doubling its revenue compared to the previous year. This division provides integrated solutions and power management specifically for AI chips and servers. Additionally, the Communications segment, which focuses on networking equipment, satellite systems, and telecom infrastructure, saw a top line rise of 55.5% year over year and 33.1% sequentially, benefiting from AI tailwinds. These two high-growth segments are expected to accelerate Monolithic Power Systems’ revenue growth, potentially positioning the stock to outperform Nvidia again in 2027.
Astera Labs (NASDAQ: ALAB)
Astera Labs develops connectivity hardware and software built for rack-scale use within AI servers. Major cloud providers are increasingly relying on the company’s solutions to facilitate faster data transfer between server clusters and advanced AI chips, prompting investor interest in its growth rates.
The company demonstrated solid momentum, reporting that sales nearly doubled year over year during its first quarter. Furthermore, a 14% sequential growth rate was recorded. While double-digit percentage sequential revenue increases are becoming common across the AI hardware sector—a trend previously observed before Micron’s significant share price surge—the current valuation presents an opportunity. Although the stock has nearly doubled this year, it has fallen by approximately 33% from its peak over recent weeks, which some analysts view as a favorable dip-buying chance.
Cadence Design Systems (NASDAQ: CDNS)
Compared to the other stocks listed, Cadence Design Systems has experienced a more moderate start, currently up by almost 20% this year. This growth is fueled by its success in providing electronic design automation software and hardware solutions to chip manufacturers. These tools are vital for enabling companies such as Advanced Micro Devices and Nvidia to test and build semiconductor designs before sending them to third-party foundries for actual manufacturing.
While the company’s growth rates are less explosive than those of its peers, it maintains a record $8 billion backlog. Cadence Design Systems forecasts 17% revenue expansion for 2026. A major catalyst anticipated for the firm is Agentic AI. This technology simplifies the design process for advanced AI chips capable of handling highly rigorous workloads within data centers. Given that this makes CDNS a critical checkpoint in the AI chip development chain, it is expected to support both revenue increases and profit margin expansion, thereby enhancing investor interest.
