The S.E.A. Aquarium, a flagship attraction at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), will undergo a significant transformation in 2024 by rebranding as the Singapore Oceanarium (SGO). The new facility is expected to be three times larger than its current footprint, incorporating interactive installations designed to deepen visitor engagement with marine life and conservation efforts.

Rename Reflects Ambitious Scale and Vision

The renaming to Singapore Oceanarium marks a shift in the attraction’s identity, aligning with its expanded scope. Assistant Vice President of Attractions at RWS, Ms. Lam Xue Ying, emphasized that the rebranded venue will offer guests “a thought-provoking journey of marine discovery.” The project, initially slated for 2025, has been accelerated to open in 2024, with construction progressing ahead of schedule.

Holographic Technology to Bring Prehistoric Marine Life to Life

A key feature of the Singapore Oceanarium will be its use of holographic technology to digitally recreate rare and extinct ocean creatures. Visitors will encounter lifelike projections of prehistoric marine species, including potentially iconic figures like the kraken, though no direct confrontation with these entities is planned. The installations aim to educate audiences about historical biodiversity while highlighting the importance of preserving current ecosystems.

Conservation Focus at the Core of New Experience

The expanded venue will also serve as a platform for raising awareness about pressing environmental challenges such as climate change, over-fishing, and pollution. By integrating these themes into its exhibits, the Singapore Oceanarium seeks to inspire visitors to adopt sustainable practices that protect marine environments.

Enhanced Visitor Experience Through Innovation

The redesign will feature larger-scale exhibits and deeper content on oceanic history, offering a more immersive experience for guests. RWS has prioritized digital innovation to enhance interactivity, ensuring the attraction remains relevant in an era of advancing technology. While the S.E.A. Aquarium holds nostalgic value for many Singaporeans, the new iteration promises fresh attractions that align with contemporary visitor expectations.

The transformation underscores RWS’s commitment to evolving its offerings while maintaining a focus on education and environmental stewardship. As the Singapore Oceanarium prepares for its 2024 debut, it aims to set a new standard for marine-themed tourism in Southeast Asia.
