AI Content Continues: Grok Releases Fragment of “The Odyssey”

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence tool, Grok, recently released the initial episode of an AI-generated series based on Homer’s epic poem, *The Odyssey*. This release marks a partial fulfillment of Musk’s earlier claims regarding an entirely synthetic, feature-length adaptation of the ancient Greek poem.

On October 23, 2026, the company posted the first seven-minute installment of the series on the social media platform X. The promotional post also acknowledged the “creative collaboration” of Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker, both entities known for their work in AI filmmaking.

Musk’s Vision for a “Historically Accurate” Epic

The development of this project stems from Musk’s public commitment in July to creating a full-length, “historically accurate” cinematic version of Homer’s work. At that time, he stated that his AI, Grok, would be capable of producing this film by the close of 2026.

Musk had previously tweeted about his ambition, writing that “Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” following the posting of a three-minute AI-generated short by an X user.

Controversy Surrounds the Project

The announcement and the project itself drew significant attention and criticism. Earlier in the process, Scott Derrickson, director of films such as *Doctor Strange* and *The Black Phone*, publicly criticized the endeavor on the same social media platform. Derrickson wrote that Musk was clearly unaware of cinema history and had ceased reading in his twenties, concluding that Musk’s opinions on art held no value.

Beyond the critique of the project’s artistic merit, Musk had also faced scrutiny over the casting choices for the film, specifically the roles of Sinon (played by Elliot Page) and Helen of Troy (played by Lupita Nyong’o). Musk had previously asserted that Christopher Nolan had cast both actors to satisfy the Academy’s standards for representation and inclusion at the Oscars. Furthermore, in March, Musk had stated that “Chris Nolan is an anti-White racist,” alleging that Nyong’o was cast only due to “He wants the awards.”
