Market Dynamics and Top-Selling Processors in 2025

Recent sales data indicates that while AMD maintains a commanding lead in the desktop CPU market, Intel has successfully reclaimed a presence on Amazon’s top-10 list for the first time in over a year. During the entirety of 2025, all ten of the most popular processors sold on Amazon were manufactured by AMD.

Despite AMD’s near-total dominance, two Intel processors have secured top-10 rankings. These chips are the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, which ranks sixth at $255, and the Core i7-14700K, which ranks ninth at $312. The 270K Plus belongs to Intel’s Arrow Lake Refresh series, while the 14700K is part of the Raptor Lake Refresh lineup.

The remaining top-10 spots are occupied by a mix of AMD chips from the Ryzen 9000, 7000, and 5000 series. Leading the sales chart is the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. For budget-conscious builders, the Ryzen 5 5500 holds the second position. The top five spots are filled by the Ryzen 5 5500 (#2), the Ryzen 7 5800X3D (#3), the Ryzen 7 7800X3D (#4), and the Ryzen 5 9600X (#5).

Completing the top ten are the Ryzen 9 9950X3D (#7), the Ryzen 5 7600X (#8), and the Ryzen 5 5600X (#10). Overall, the top ten list features eight entries from AMD and two from Intel, representing a notable 20% market presence increase for Intel within the top-20 list.

Impact of Memory Pricing on CPU Sales

The return of Intel chips to the top-10 is largely attributed to current market conditions, specifically high costs for DDR5 memory. This dynamic is compelling more buyers to upgrade their existing DDR4 systems rather than purchasing a brand-new, platform-specific system. This trend provides a sales boost to DDR4-compatible chips, such as the Core i9-14900K and Core i7-14700K.

Conversely, several high-ranking AMD chips—including the 9850X3D, 9950X, and 9900X—have seen a decline in sales volume because they exclusively utilize DDR5 memory.

A Shift from November 2024

AMD had previously pushed Intel out of the top-selling CPU category in November 2024. This decline followed a poor launch of Intel’s Arrow Lake “Core Ultra 200” desktop processors. During that month, the Ryzen 7 5700X was recorded as the best-selling processor, while the highest-ranked Intel chip, the Core i5-13600KF, was positioned at number 12.
