Upcoming Departures from Game Pass
Xbox has announced the details of a new cycle of titles exiting the Game Pass library. Beginning on September 15, a total of ten games will be removed from the service. The most prominent title leaving the rotation is Cyberpunk 2077, the science fiction RPG developed by CD Projekt Red. The game had been included on the service since March, meaning its tenure in the library lasted six months.
This removal follows the recent departure of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt last month. Among the other titles leaving on September 15 are: Commandos: Origins (available on Cloud, Console, and PC), Cricket 24 (Cloud, Console, and PC), Dead Cells (Cloud, Console, and PC), Deep Rock Galactic Survivor (Cloud, Console, and PC), Frostpunk 2 (PC), Mullet Madjack (Cloud, Console, and PC), Spiritfarer (Cloud, Console, and PC), Superliminal (Cloud, Console, and PC), and Train Sim World 5 (Cloud, Console, and PC).
Notable Exiting Games
Several games departing the service are noted by critics and players for their quality. Dead Cells, a roguelike Metroidvania first released in 2018, is cited as a significant loss for the service. Similarly, Spiritfarer, an emotional independent game concerning the journey of ferrying the deceased to the afterlife, is recommended for players to experience before its removal. Fans of Dead Cells may also note that the developer, Evil Empire, plans to release a new title, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, on October 15.
In relation to Cyberpunk 2077, while a direct sequel remains distant, interest in the game is expected to increase following the announcement that a second season of the popular Edgerunners anime will debut on October 20, exclusively through Netflix. This development is anticipated to boost the visibility of the source material.
New Additions to the Library
While many games are leaving, Game Pass will welcome seven new titles. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to join the service starting September 8. The remaining additions include Shelldiver, Speedrunners 2: King of Speed, The Royal Writ, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
