Users have the flexibility to run models locally through the standard LM Studio runtime or access larger open-source models housed in the cloud via LM Studio Secure Cloud for more demanding operations. These heavier tasks include advanced reasoning, tool calling, and handling extensive context. For those utilizing cloud services, LM Studio ensures that all requests follow a Zero Data Retention policy, meaning data is not stored after processing is complete. Note that using the cloud model capabilities requires an active LM Studio account with billing information established.

The new app integrates several advanced features designed to streamline professional workflows:
- Voice Transcription: Bionic ships equipped with a voice keyboard that works universally across applications. All transcription from dictation is handled locally on the device, preserving user privacy. Initially, the application supports Mistral AI’s Voxtral model for multilingual, offline voice conversion.
- Code Development Projects: For developers and “vibe coders,” Bionic enables users to create a Code project linked directly to a specific local directory. This setup allows open models—such as GLM 5.2 and Kimi K2.7 Code—to investigate, edit, or debug the existing codebase while providing visible progress reviews. The tool also enhances productivity by supporting agentic code search and inline diffs for a smoother user-AI interaction.
- Knowledge Work Projects: Bionic is designed to handle documents for knowledge work, including PDFs, spreadsheets, and presentations. When operating in a “Work project,” the system processes documents within a safe, sandboxed environment, ensuring that unrelated files and the rest of the computer remain secure. Users can utilize the tool to summarize materials, organize local directories, edit files, or integrate external context using native web search capabilities. To maintain safety, the platform includes automatic checkpoints, allowing users to safely review or revert changes, alongside in-app previews to keep all workflow elements centralized.
