The popular retail store Otaku House is ceasing operations at its Plaza Singapura location after serving customers for a period of 17 years. The closure, scheduled for August 16, coincides with the mall undergoing a major renovation and revamp across Level 7.
Details of the Closure and Farewell Sale
Otaku House confirmed via an Instagram post on July 9 that August 16 will mark its final day at the Plaza Singapura outlet. To acknowledge its loyal customer base, the store is hosting a Moving Out Sale, offering a substantial discount of 40% storewide.
The retail chain encouraged patrons to visit one last time to purchase “amazing bargains” and bid farewell to what was described as the original Plasma Singapura branch. The sale will feature discounts across various merchandise lines, including figures, plushies, keychains, anime goods, collectables, and accessories. Items such as the store’s well-known Kuji prizes are also part of the clearance.
Impact of Mall Revamp
The closure is necessitated by plans from Capitaland, which manages Plaza Singapura, to renovate the entire Level 7 area. The retailer clarified that this revamp affects all tenants on the top level, meaning every existing store at that location will be vacating.
This development mirrors a similar situation with Golden Village, which also announced its exit from Plaza Singapura after 28 years, setting its final day for August 16 due to the major mall overhaul. Regarding those attending the Moving Out Sale, patrons may also benefit from special promotions, including opportunities to win private screening and free popcorn vouchers.
Store History and Future Plans
Otaku House commemorated its 17-year tenure in Plaza Singapura by referencing its origins—the store began after a sketch submitted to the mall led to the grand opening of the chain’s second outlet, marked by a lion dance ceremony. The store has been remembered by customers as “a place where friendships were made, collections began, and memories were created.”

Despite the physical closure at this location, Otaku House confirmed that it is not ceasing operations entirely. The retail chain maintains several other operational branches, including outlets located in Jewel Changi Airport, Suntec City, and PLQ Mall. Furthermore, the company plans to open an additional outlet soon at SingPost Centre.
